Real calls, real quality
Calls connect over Wi-Fi or mobile data through carrier-grade voice infrastructure, so they land like any ordinary phone call. There is nothing for the other person to install and no username to exchange — you dial a normal number and their phone rings.
The in-call screen names the number you're calling from, so a second line never gets mixed up with your first, and keeps the controls where you expect them.

Messaging
Texting that just works
Full SMS threads in the layout your thumbs already know: type, send, and watch the delivery ticks. Messages come back to your second number and stay in the app, with an unread badge on the Message tab so nothing sits unnoticed.
Because it's real SMS rather than app-to-app chat, it works with everyone — including the people who will never install anything.

Your number
A virtual phone number you actually choose
You aren't assigned whatever the system has spare. The picker lists real available numbers with the city and area code attached — New York (917), and so on — and you take the one you like. Search a digit pattern to narrow the list, or refresh it for a new batch.
Numbers are available in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada today, with more countries coming soon.

History & voicemail
Every call accounted for
Recents splits your second line into three tabs — calls, missed, and voicemail — so a message you haven't heard never hides at the bottom of a mixed list. Your active number sits at the top of the screen, and each entry shows whether the call came in, went out, or was missed.
Callers the system doesn't like the look of are marked Potential Spam before you pick up.

Spam control
Block spam calls without touching your real line
Open any number from your recents and you get the whole picture: its country, the history you have with it, and one-tap actions to call, message, save it as a contact or share it.
The same screen is where you shut it down — block the caller, report them, or wipe the log. Spam that finds your second number never reaches your real one, because your real one was never in play.

No SIM, no second phone
Everything runs inside one app on the handset you already carry. Your existing SIM, number and plan are untouched.
Dial internationally
The keypad has a country selector built in, so calling a number abroad is the same three taps as calling one at home.
One app, two lines
Dialpad, messages, recents and settings sit in a single tab bar — your second line never spills into your first.
One thing SpareNumber isn't: a replacement for your regular phone service. It may not support emergency calls such as 911, 999 or 112 — keep your primary line for those. The details are in our Terms of Service.
